Narcissistic and Difficult Family Relationships
We offer counselling and psychotherapy in Upper Rissington, Bloxham and Online.
Relationships with family members can sometimes leave us feeling confused, criticised, controlled, guilty or unsure of ourselves. If you have experienced a relationship that felt narcissistic, emotionally manipulative or persistently difficult, therapy can offer a safe and supportive space to make sense of what has happened and the impact it has had on you.
You will be met with empathy and compassion and given space to be heard without judgement. We understand how difficult family relationships can affect self-confidence, trust, identity and your ability to feel secure in your own decisions. Over time, you may have learned to doubt yourself, keep the peace, take responsibility for other people’s feelings or ignore your own needs.
We can help you explore the patterns within these relationships and understand how they may continue to affect you now. This may include relationships with parents, adult children, siblings, partners or other significant people.
It can be difficult to set and hold boundaries, particularly when guilt, fear, obligation or the hope that the relationship will change gets in the way. We will support you to understand what healthy boundaries might look like and how you can begin to protect your emotional wellbeing.
Our aim is to help you rebuild confidence and trust in yourself, reconnect with your own sense of identity and develop a stronger sense of self-respect. Therapy is not about telling you what to do with a relationship, but helping you make choices that feel clearer, safer and more your own.
